PAC’s In House Aquathlon

Over the last 2 weeks PAC swimmers have been pushing themselves to the limit by completing our custom Aquathlon at least twice per week. An Aquathlon involves completing a long distance swim then a medium distance run in the shortest time possible.

We want to give special congratulations to Joshua Stoute, and Zachary Coleman as the most improved athletes: they shaved 11 and 9 minuets off their initial times respectively!

As a comparison with the US based “IronKids National Championships”

Age Group Swim DistanceIron Kids Swim Distance CCSET Run DistanceIron Kids Run Distance CCSET
Junior (6 to 8 ) 50 Yards 200 Yards 500 Yards 700 Yards
Intermediate (9 to 11) 150 Yards 400 Yards 1760 Yards 1050 Yards
Senior (ages 12 to 15) 300 Yards 800 Yards 3520 Yards 1400 Yards

We would also like to congratulate many of our swimmers who competed in higher age categories but there are too many to list so please take the time to check out your own child’s records: every single swimmer improved and should be proud.

As a note on the times: the whole numbers are minuets and the decimals are seconds not fractions of minuets so 10.10 is 10 minutes and 10 seconds not 10 minutes and 6 seconds.

3 Phoenix Swimmers on OECS Team!

Congratulations Yanni Alexander and Donovon Simon for being accepted onto Antiuga’s OECS team.

Phoenix Swimmers Individual Achievement

We are very proud of the many phoenixes who were able to secure victories at the OECS trials. However, we would also like to recognize individual achievements for the team.  It is notable that every Phoenix swimmer who competed in the last meet has substantially improved by at least 5%….how important is 5% well…read the “math section” to find out

For those of you who just want the results…

For those who like math and need to know “how things work”:

Some fun Trivia!!

Johann Derrick is extremely notable as he improved by an average of around 60% in just 3 months which led the team in rate of improvement. This is a rate of 20% per month. If Johann (or anyone) can maintain a 4th of this improvement or just 5% per month then they will (assuming Johan’s current time of 52.43) shatter the current world record (by about 3 seconds) for 50 free in just 21 months or in less than 2 years.

  1. “Seed Times” refer to the last official time a Phoenix Swimmer achieved which is basically the time you achieved in the last meet at the AAC in June. Your finals time refers to your time from the OECS trials on the 4th.
  2. Some swimmers do NOT have seed times because they did not participate in the race in June, this does not mean that you have not been improving it simply means that we do not have a reference to compare you with your finals time is your new seed time so after the next race you will be able to compare that.
  3. Your improvement is simply calculated by taking the total number of seconds in your finals time and subtracting that from your total number of seconds in your seed time.
  4. Your “Total Improvement” is basically adding up the total time you took to complete all your events this time (or all of your finals times) and subtracting that from the total time you took in the last race.
    1. In the event that you added new events only the events that you participated in for BOTH races are included in the totals calculation.
    2. Your percentage improved is simply the percent you are faster in a given stroke
    3. Your total percent improved is simply the percent you were faster in completing all your strokes.

Phoenix Swimmers Ready for Action

The Phoenix Swim Team will be participating in the Antigua OECS time trials this Sunday, October 4, 2009.  This event will determine the team that will represent Antigua at the OECS Championships in November, which will be hosted in Grenada.

The Phoenix Swim Team has been diligently practising in preparation for this event.  14 swimmers will represent PAC at the meet, our largest team to date.  Many of our swimmers train up to five times per week, while going to school and participating in other extracurricular activities.  They have put in many hours of hard work improving their stokes, dives and turns, and are anxiously awaiting their opportunity to use these skills in an actual race.

The meet will be hosted at the Antigua Athletic Club.  All are welcome to come out and cheer on the swimmers.  The meet will start at 8:30AM sharp.  Admission for the meet is $10EC/adult and $5EC/child under 15 years (free for children under 5 years).  Volunteers are needed for meet set up, timing during the event and clean up.  If you are interested in volunteering for this event, please email pool@ccset.net.
